Emergency Dessert #1 : DOUGHNUTS

You will need:

Pillsbury Biscuit Roll
Something for filling -- We used strawberry jelly, and a cool whip mixture I had left over.
Frosting:
  • We made ours from scratch with syrup and brown sugar.
  • You could make it by mixing confectionary sugar and a little milk
  • We added chopped walnuts to ours.
Cooking Oil
A pan with high sides (unless you have a fryer, we don't!)

Fill the pan with alot of cooking oil. You will need enough for the donuts to float. Heat the oil to medium hot on your stove.

While it is heating tear open your doughnuts and put the filling inside. Be careful to try to seal it up as best as possible or you will be cleaning this out of the pot later.

(If you do NOT want filled doughnuts simply use a 2 liter's plastic top to cut holes in the doughnuts, save the holes to cook the same way (but for less time)!)

Now drop them in the oil!! Put in as many as will fit. Flip them occasionally until they brown. You should cook them about 3 minutes on each side. If you do not put enough oil they will stick to the bottom of the pan and burn.

Prepare a plate for the doughnuts by covering it with 5-6 paper towels. Put the donuts on it and pat the oil off.

It is time for the frosting! Mix your frosting now. Its best to do it after the donuts have cooled a little, otherwise it will sink in and not be as pretty. :)

We mixed half a cup of maple syrup with 3 teaspoons of browns ugar until it evaporated. I then dumped it on top of the donuts. I then put the walnuts. Delicious!

These were a BIG hit!
